Prostatitis
Prostatitis is an inflammation or infection of the prostate that can cause pelvic pain; difficulty with urination; pain and/or burning with urination or increase in frequency; and sometimes fever and chills. This condition occurs in men and is sometimes caused by a bacterial infection but in many cases the cause remains unknown. West Georgia Urology understands the frustration that can be associated with this condition and can provide evaluation and treatment for Prostatitis.
Evaluation
Our medical staff will start by getting a complete medical history and performing a physical exam. This evaluation may include the following:
- Urinalysis
- Urine culture and sensitivity
- Urinary symptom score evaluation
- PSA
- Digital rectal examination
- Post-void residual measurement
Symptoms
- Pain
- Dysuria (painful urination)
- Urinary Frequency, Urgency
- Hesitancy
- Painful ejaculation
- Slowing of urine stream
Possible Treatment
- Antibiotics
- Anti-inflammatory medications
- Sitz Baths
- Dietary modifications
- Additional medical therapies
- Behavioral changes
